Behind the Scenes
As far back as I can remember, I’ve always wanted to be a filmmaker. To me, being a filmmaker was better than being president of the United States. I would have class. I would be a contender. I would be somebody, instead of a bum, which is what I am. So now, I’m going to make you an offer you can’t refuse that’s sure to go ahead and make your day–
Sorry, that’s enough movie quotes to sink a ship. Let’s get on to the real me.
My name is Kevin McElligott and I am an aspiring writer and filmmaker. I am currently in my third year at college, studying Creative Writing for Digital Media.
My passion in life is cinema. I first watched The Godfather when I was thirteen and it completely changed the way I saw movies–cinema can be more than simple spectacle and entertainment.
In my college studies, I have done several short film projects. Through this, I have learned many things about the art of cinema and what makes movies so important as a storytelling medium. There is so much involved– music, editing, sound effects, acting. From experience, some of my colleagues and I had difficulties with one area but exceled in another. If you cannot pay somebody else to do the work for you, you need to be an expert at EVERYTHING.
It is daunting but it certainly is achievable. I am hoping to share my own experiences, opinions and knowledge of cinema with all other lovers of the craft. I strongly believe that watching films is a communal event and it should be shared among peers. The ultimate aim is to provide a website for all aspiring filmmakers to become more educated on the craft of creating moving images.
I am really excited about looking back and rekindling my admiration for certain films and genres. There is an entire planet filmmakers and movie fanatics out there. Let’s bring them together.
